The IBPT Coproration's US Patent Application 20090286220 gets approved by USPTO.

(07/30/2009)
The IBPT Corporation developed an alternative method for longer-term (over 24 hours) stabilization of traumatically amputated limbs by biopreservation with hypothermic temperature (+5 degrees Celsius) and hyperbaric (~100 psi) xenon.
IBPT's preliminary results show that amputated limbs remain viable under medium pressure of xenon for at least 24 hours at +5 degrees Celsius, while the control limbs stored at the same temperature but without xenon suffered irreversible damage.
Based on the patent-pending protocol, the company developed a prototype device that is portable, self-contained, and easy to operate.

Prominent perimitochondrial dilation of rough endoplasmic reticulum was found in the muscle samples from the animal limb preserved at +4 degrees Celsius over 24 hours, suggesting severe hypoxic damage of the muscle cells.

No significant morphologic differences were found between the control muscle samples and the muscle samples from the animal limb preserved at +4 degrees Celsius for 24 hours with hyperbaric xenon, suggesting a protective effect of xenon.
